US praises India’s efforts in Afghanistan’s social infra space. India’s partnership with the Afghan government across its all 34 provinces comprising of development in the field of education, healthcare, infrastructure, administrative capacity, flood control, irrigation, agriculture, sports has attracted praises from the US government, said Nancy Jackson, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Afghanistan Affairs.
while addressing at an event, Indian ambassador to the US Harsh Vardhan Shringla reminded all on how India has played a vital role in reconstructing development of Afghanistan since 2001. US praises India’s efforts in Afghanistan’s social infra space. So far India has completed about 400 projects and abot 150 more projects are underway. Under the ‘New Development Partnership’, several important projects focused on developmental needs and priorities of Afghanistan have been identified for implementation including Shahtoot Dam and drinking water project for Kabul city, low-cost housing for returning Afghan refugees.

“India remains committed to support Afghanistan’s journey to re-emerge as a united, sovereign, democratic, peaceful, stable, prosperous and inclusive nation.”
India has immensely contributed to the development of dams, roads, electrical lines, irrigation systems, and telecommunications infrastructure. Have also built a stadium in Kandahar for Afghanistan’s cricket team. India and Afghan Red Crescent Society is jointly helping treat children with congenital heart disease. Also providing scholarships to about thousand students from Afghanistan each year. There are close to 16,000 Afghan students studying in India currently.
Under the USAID-sponsored programme “Passage to Prosperity” India-Afghanistan International Trade and Investment Shows, have been attended by Afghan and Indian private sector businesses . The 2018 Passage to Prosperity event resulted in nearly USD350 million in deals between Indian and Afghan businesses. There is synergy developing between the two strategically important nations.
