Crime Branch quizzes BJP leader Surendran in election bribery case
The Crime Branch wing of the Kerala police on Thursday questioned BJP state president K Surendran in a case registered against him on the allegations that he had “bribed” a rival candidate with a similar name to withdraw his nomination from the Manjeshwaram constituency in the last state Assembly elections. Talking to reporters after over an hour long interrogation at the guest house, Surendran alleged that the case against him was politically motivated but cooperated with the investigation as he respects the rule of law. Sundara, a BSP candidate of Manjeshwaram constituency in the district and a namesake of Surendran, had on March 22 withdrawn his nomination papers thereby giving an edge to the BJP chief. Surendran, however, lost the election.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has released a book, Agra Monuments, in Braille script to educate visually impaired students about the history of heritage sites in Agra on Wednesday. The book contains information on the all monuments situated in Uttar Pradesh such as Agra Fort, Taj Mahal, Fatehpuri Sikri. The book will be sent to schools and other institutions that work with visually impaired individuals free of cost.
ED conducts raids at premises linked to retired IAS officer Harsh Mander in connection to alleged money laundering case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted searches at the premises of human rights activist and retired IAS officer Harsh Mander in connection with a money laundering investigation, official sources said. They said his residence and NGO offices located in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, Adchini and Mehrauli areas are being searched under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The teams are looking at financial and banking documents of the two non-governmental organisations (NGOs) linked to him, they said.

In a letter to Ford India MD President and Managing Director Anurag Mehrotra, FADA President Vinkesh Gulati pointed out the difficulties being faced by the company’s dealers across the country.
He noted that Ford dealers were staring at huge losses as customers have started cancelling the bookings in the wake of the plant closure announcement.
Gulati said dealers were worried about the compensation structure as many were not even five years old in the system and may not have even reached the break-even point.

SBI cuts home loan interest rate to 6.7%, waives processing fees
- According to press release issued by SBI, earlier a borrower availing a loan greater than Rs 75 lakh, had to pay an interest rate of 7.15%; now with the introduction of the festive offers, a borrower can avail home loan for any amount at a rate as low as 6.7%.
- “The offer results in a saving of 45 bps which translates to a huge interest saving of more than Rs. 8 lac, for a Rs. 75 lac loan with a 30 year tenure,” stated the press release.
- SBI has said that it has removed this distinction between a salaried and a non-salaried borrower.
- The lender has also waived off the processing fees completely and will be offering attractive interest concession based on the credit score of the borrower.

Delhi: Rainfall this season so far highest since 1964; more in store
The bounteous monsoon this year has already dumped 1159.4 mm of rainfall in Delhi till Thursday afternoon, the highest since 1964 and the third-highest ever, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data. Also, Delhi’s September rainfall has breached the 400 mm mark. At 403 mm till Thursday afternoon, it is the highest precipitation in the month since 417.3 mm in September 1944.To put things into perspective, Delhi had received 404 mm rainfall in the entire 2019 monsoon period.The figures are subject to change as more rainfall is predicted in the city during the day. Experts say that it could become the second-wettest monsoon ever in Delhi by the time it withdraws.

State-owned BHEL on Thursday announced the commissioning of India’s largest floating solar photovoltaic plant in Andhra Pradesh. Located at NTPC Simhadri in Andhra Pradesh, the 25-megawatt floating SPV project covers an area of 100 acres, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) said without disclosing the project cost.BHEL said its scope of work in the project included design, engineering, procurement and construction of the solar project, which has been executed by the company’s recently formed Solar Business Division.The project will help saving valuable land resources and conserving water by reducing evaporation, it said.
