INDORE: Union minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of 35 major road projects in Madhya Pradesh – totaling 1,530km and worth around Rs 11,311 crore — on Thursday.
Indore and neighbouring districts have Rs 3,500 crore worth of these projects.
Gadkari and MP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will attend the mega event being organized jointly by ministry of road transport and highways, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and state PWD.
Among the major projects are four-lane road widening of Bhopal-Biaora block (Mubarakpur-Biaora), Gwalior-Jhansi block, Mohgan-Khawasa block, Jhansi-Khajuraho block, Bamidha-Satna block two-lane and construction of Shujalpur-Ashta block two-lane road with paved shoulder.
Gadkari will inaugurate strengthening of seven road projects, some 452 km long and costing Rs 579 crore. The Obaidullaganj-Nagpur block (NH-69) is unique among them, having been built with plastic waste as a pilot project.
The Union minister will lay the foundation stones of 21 road projects, including four-lane road widening of Dewas-Ujjain block, Balwara-Dhanganv (along with construction of a bridge on Narmada River), Dhangaon-Borgaon block, Rewa-Bela block, Sagar-Mohari block, Bamidha-Khajrao along with four-lane road widening of remaining part of Nauradehi Sanctuary, Machaliya Ghat, Madhav National Park and construction of two-lane with paved shoulder on Ujjain-Jhalawar block and Satna-Maihar block.
He will lay foundation stone of a two-km long flyover from Bhopal Square to Indira Gandhi Square and construction of a 104 km-long Atar Ghat – Sabalgarh Tentra – Dhovani (Govardhan) – Mohana Road along with strengthening of total 244 km-long eight road project costing Rs 145 Crore.
According to Indore MP Shankar Lalwani, Gadkari will sign an MOU with the state government to develop a multi-model logistic hub in Indore’s Betma tehsil.
“For the project, 150 acres of land has been made available and later, a similar amount of land will be acquired to meet the future demands while the proposed multi-mode logistic hub will also be connected with rail transport by laying a railway line from nearby station” he said.
Gadkari will inspect the under-construction 8-lane Delhi-Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway in Ratlam. According to NHAI officials, the Rs 8,437 crore worth project, which will pass through Mandsaur (over 102km), Ratlam (90km) and Jhabua (52km) covering a total distance of nearly 245km in Madhya Pradesh, is scheduled for completion in November next year.
