With nearly 500 rooms and eight event spaces, the Taj Lands End is one of the biggest hotels in the suburbs of Mumbai. Taj Lands End Redevelopment on the Cards. Plans were under preparation for many years to construct a new hotel building where the multi-storied historic hotel Sea Rock once stood. Taj Lands End has more than 1,000 rooms, multiple event spaces, and convention centers.
The redevelopment of this hotel needs many aspects one of them would be the addition of floors as the Floor Space Index (FSI) granted to the property is not fully utilized by Indian Hotels Company. Upon completion, the property will be the single biggest in India.
Traffic issues are a major worry at present and the redevelopment plan would include hotel's connectivity with the sea link (Bandra Worli Sea Link) and with internal roads, trains or metros so that the hotel also functions normally.
The Sea Rock hotel, which became defunct after a bomb exploded on the 18th floor in 1993, and was taken over in 2009 by IHCL through a subsidiary company. IHCL which runs four hotel brands – Taj, Vivanta, Selections, and Ginger – invested Rs 680 crore to buy 85 percent stake in the company that owned Sea Rock.
IHCL now intends to buy out the balance of equity for which it is holding talks with the stakeholders.
